US vs UK Terms

Before you start with any crochet pattern it is EXTREMELY important that you check whether the pattern is written in US or UK English.  Since these two differs significantly and with overlapping terms such as the double crochet stitch, but not being the same stitch, it will have a massive impact on your final outcome.  So my advise is to always "translate" your pattern to the terms you are most familiar with before you start your project.  It will save you endless frustrations.
